Maverick MMA 1 weigh-ins took place today at the Warrior Bar and Grill in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania Thursday, June 6, 2017.

Featherweights Scott “The Animal” Heckman (21-8 MMA, 0-0 MMMA) will face Steve McCabe (7-19 MMA, 0-0 MMMA) at Maverick MMA 1 at the Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg Friday, April 7, 2017.

Before a unanimous decision win against Ruben Warr at King’s Promotions X 2, Heckman announced it would be his last MMA bout before he retired. Heckman will come out of retirement and return to the cage for the first time since June 2016.

In his King’s Promotions X debut, Heckman lost via first-round TKO to Cody Walker Jan. 30, 2016.

Before heading over to King’s Promotions X, Heckman competed eight straight times for Cage Fury Fighting Championships. He finished (5-3) in his second stint with the promotion.

During this time, the 32-year-old won the CFFC featherweight title by defeating Jeff Lentz by split decision at CFFC 31 Feb. 8, 2014. His championship reign came to a quick end when he lost the strap at CFFC 35 April 26, 2014.

Former UFC fighter Levan Makashvili finished Heckman via fourth-round technical knockout to become the new champion. Heckman went on to win one out of his next three bouts.

After the title defeat, he rebounded with a third-round brabo choke against Troy Gerhart at CFFC 39 in August 2014. In his next two bouts, Heckman lost by technical knockout to Gabriel Solorio and by submission to Jay Haas.

Heckman finished 14 of his 21 victories by submission and never lost a decision in his career.

The other half of the main event, McCabe, lost two back-to-back submission defeats to Scott Gorgone and Peter Barrett inside the Cage Titans Fighting Championships’ cage.

The 38-year-old is (1-7) in his last eight bouts. His lone victory comes from a first-round armbar against Fernando Perez at CTFC 24 in June 2015.
