Mike Trizano replaces Sharif Jones at Maverick MMA 1

Mike “The Lone Wolf” Trizano (2-0 MMA, 0-0 MMMA) replaces Sharif Jones (3-1 MMA, 0-0 MMMA) to challenge Tim Kunkel (2-2 MMA, 0-0 MMMA) for the inaugural Maverick MMA lightweight strap at Maverick MMA 1 inside Sherman Theater in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, April 7, 2017.

The Pennsylvania Athletic Commission suspended Jones 60 days after going to the hospital for dehydration following his second professional boxing bout against Edward Jeramie Ortiz March 11, 2016.

The bout was ruled a draw.

Trizano, a teammate of UFC Featherweight Shane Burgos, earned the Dead Serious MMA 146 lbs. title as an amateur. It is one of four titles he captured, finishing (6-0) before turning pro.

The 25-year-old  turned professional March 4, 2016, earning a unanimous decision against James Gonzalez at ROC 54. In his most recent outing, Trizano submitted Raul Gonzales by a first-round rear-naked choke at ROC 55 June 2016.

In his most recent outing, Kunkel knocked out Greg Quarentello at 34 seconds into the very first round at King’s Promotions X Fights 2 July 18, 2016. The highlight reel finish snapped a two-fight skid.

Kunkel lost to Marcus Surin via a third-round arm-triangle choke at Cage Fury Fighting Championships 47 March 7, 2015. Previous to the defeat, Kunkel suffered a TKO loss in round two at CFFC 44 Dec. 13, 2014.

In his professional debut, the 24-year-old knocked out Dean Lavin in the opening round at Xtreme Fight Events 39 April 2014.

Headlining the event is Scott “The Animal” Heckman (21-8 MMA, 0-0 MMA) and Steve McCabe (7-19 MMA, 0-0 MMMA). Heckman is coming out of retirement after hanging up his gloves when he defeated Ruben Warr at King’s Promotions -X- Fights 2 Jan. 18, 2016.

McCabe lost two back-to-back submission defeats to Scott Gorgone and Peter Barrett under Cage Titans Fighting Championships’ banner. The 38-year-old is (1-7) in his last eight bouts.

Also on the card, lightweight Ricky “El Numero Uno” Nuno (2-4 MMA, 0-0 MMMA) will meet Steve Jones (1-2 MMA, 0-0 MMMA) at Maverick MMA 1.

Another professional bout is heavyweights Jon Romero (2-1 MMA, 0-0 MMMA) and J.A. Dudley (8-16 MMA, 0-0 MMMA).
